This complex roundabout is on many of the driving test routes from the Hither Green Driving Test Centre.

Hi....Just checked the really useful video on yorshshire trey roundabout. In this video you mentioned that for going straight ahead from point D to point B, one needs to be in the right lane. I find it strange and puzzling. If there is no on-road sign or side road sign directing the drivers to use right lane, how is anyone going to know? Could you please help me understand why? Also, if during the test the candidate uses the left lane (per the highway code), will that be a fail (I strongly think it should be a pass). Await your reply. Many thanks, and once again the videos are informative.

From exit D Passing exit A to get to exit B in the left lane at that roundabout it potentially dangerous. Should you find yourself In the left lane Exit at point A…. therefore no serious or dangerous fault will be recorded and you will not fail. Some driving examiners can be helpful and may advise you to approach in the right hand lane (at their discretion).

Some junctions are so complex and it is difficult to write rules for every single one. So long as you deal with them safely without affecting the flow of traffic it is normaly ok… for example forcing another vehicle to slow down or change direction when emerging or changing lanes would be considered as a serious fault and you would fail.
